St. Margaret of Scotland was the sister of King Egar Aetheling, daughter of Edward Aetheling and grandaughter of King Edmund Ironside of England. She was born in Hungary where her father was living in exile. Margaret married King Malcolm Canmore of Scots in 1069 and was instrumental in restoring the fortunes of the Church in Scotland. She was very pious and much loved by the people of Scotland. Through her daughter, Edith (later called Matilda)'s marriage to King Henry I, the old Saxon Royal blood enetered into the Norman line of English Kings. She died on 16th November 1093 at Edinburgh Castle and was buried at Dunfermline Abbey. Margaret was canonised in 1250.
